WAKE UP – There’s More to Landscape Photography

there’s so much more to landscape photography than just photography it changes us it changes the way we look at the world so what if I don’t get an image I was up and I was out amazing landscape images are rare if it was easy it would be boring ever since owning my first camera I have never looked at the sky in the same way landscape photography makes me appreciate my surroundings to the smallest of detail and don’t worry about kit the best camera is the one we have honors a beautiful scene is a beautiful scene no matter how many megapixels you have we are not content with a nice view we need the best view we’re up before sunrise and out until dark sometimes we stay out we instinctively know what’s and sunrises and we know what time’s sunset there is no such thing as failure I have never ever regretted going out with the camera even if I don’t take an image first others are sleeping we are hiking what others are driving we are driven the tree is not a tree a tree is a potential masterpiece we push ourselves we immerse ourselves in the elements we explore and we fight to see the world from a unique perspective why to inspire and to create landscape photography is more than taking an image it’s a way of life you

This video is spot on about photography. Looking for great pictures teaches you to be present in the world and to appreciate aspects that you wouldn't have noticed before. It removes the noise pollution, real and metaphorical, and allows the mind space for natural, unforced contemplation…and having a nice breakfast after an early morning shoot is the Sh$t, too.

  21. Travelling Sunglasses June 4, 2017 at 11:19 am

I love landscape photography, this motivated me more. Thank you.

  29. Justin Sane June 7, 2017 at 5:57 pm

I don't know how you only shoot landscapes for the most part. I shoot everything from macro to landscapes and everything in between, and I'm getting burnt out. My $2000 is getting covered in free dust.

  30. Victor Fernandes Photography June 11, 2017 at 12:47 am

Thomas I dream, it's the first thought when I wake, I tend to go on quick hikes just before work. In search of that shot because the next will be better than this one. Yes, I'm completely obsessed 🙂 I mean passionate lol. I so enjoy your channel you inspire me. Also, it's nice to know I'm not only one who would wait for hours just to get that perfect shot in the middle of nature. I wasn't going anywhere this weekend my full frame is getting its sensor cleaned. But after seeing your video I dusted off my old d3100 and in few, I'm headed to the mountains. Yes, a d3100, I aim to get me some sunset shots lol. Thank again, Thomas :-). If you have time check my Instagram @victorfernandesphotography I will post this evening's shots there 🙂

  33. Alan Laidler June 14, 2017 at 6:04 pm

Some fantastic images there made me laugh I'm the same when I drive always looking for that tree. Although I'm sure I recognise that lone tree in a field ?? Was it in Northumberland Tom.

  34. James Lane June 17, 2017 at 5:23 am

I actually stood up and clapped. this is so inspirational. I'm actually travelling in Canada and I was talking to some Canadian photographers in a photography art shop at Banff and they've heard of you

    Inspiring and beautifully done!!🌻🌿

  39. Anil Damodaran July 3, 2017 at 3:27 am

Dear Thomas, You are on to something. It's landscape photography and yet it's not just 'landscape photography'. Seeing you out and about working on your craft and sharing your thoughts is inspiring. I love that you take your work seriously and that you don't take yourself too seriously. That balancing act, like the last pebble carefully placed on a zen rock formation, whilst pushing the boundaries is what photography is all about. At least, that's what I think. I'm a big fan and hope you do extremely well. Good luck and god speed.

  60. Marcin Wojtaszczyk August 29, 2017 at 5:27 pm

Outdoor photography have learnt me one thing. To let go. To let go some photos and enjoy the moment instead. I used to go out with every lens I had, with inner pressure to have the best picture I can get. Now I take only one body and one 50mm lens. If I have lost a photo because wide angle or 'tele' was a must… It's life… We can't have everything in life. An art of letting go, when it's right moment for it, is a great skill. Don't loose the moment chasing photos. Sometime the best moment stays the best only if we let it be and forget about making pictures. Feel it. And make a photo if you feel it's time for it.

  61. Brandon Michael Hinsley September 1, 2017 at 10:34 am

Wow. You made me cry at the tree being a potential masterpiece part. Even if I don't take a picture, my neck is almost breaking every time I'm in the car because of a potential masterpiece out the window ❤️ thank you so much. Wish I'd found your channel sooner!

  66. Aadya Chidanand September 14, 2017 at 3:15 am

Some inspire through their photographs, some inspire through their words…YOU inspire through both! I simply LOVED the video! 'Absolutely stunnin' xPThe Earth has so many beautiful places not only to discover but also to protect and nurture. And you were so right- If a lanscape is beautiful then it will be beautiful no matter how many megapixels the image is. I dont mind getting up early to watch a breathtakingly beautiful sunrise, but I do mind if I have to get up early to go to school haha. Thanks for the amazing video, Thomas.

  67. Alan Chris September 14, 2017 at 5:57 pm

    Absolutely Stunnin

  68. valvelifter1 September 17, 2017 at 8:52 am

I thought I was out of step. So often I have gone out with my camera and come back without firing a shot. So many photographers now seem to shoot regardless of the light with scant regard for composition. Or over depend on ND and filter effects to try to make a boring scene interesting. You have reinvigorated me.

  69. Dave Connors September 18, 2017 at 10:28 pm

What a motivational voice. Thanks for providing this excellent video. Your words are extremely true and accurate. I am an enthusiast, amateur, and novice. My word these 2.23 minutes of pure inspiration creates images and thoughts of future good days to come. Thank you 😊 Thomas Heaton – Bravo Sir Bravo 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

  70. Tomasz Woźny September 19, 2017 at 12:25 pm

Thanks Thomas, I think you just helped me with this video to explain my wife why I have to wake up in the middle of the night and go into the wild 🙂
I'd doubt I'll ever go full time (it's too late for that) but recent article about you in Fstroppers helped me to confirm that landcspe photography is what I want to do (even if it's just a hobby). Cheers!

  78. Nick Bedford October 19, 2017 at 10:01 am

The wee hours of the morning are simultaneously the most magical, most serene and most underpopulated of the whole day. I've been waking up for sunrises for years and will never get over the way it makes me feel to be watching the sun rise or to be hiking up a mountain of through a forest.

You hit the nail on the head. When you experience the kind of views you do as an adventurous photographer, you'll never go back to the norm. Life feels wondrous out in nature.
