Her Mimarın Bilmesi Gereken 5 Photoshop İpucu

Hi There! In this tutorial you will learn some tips to improve your workflow in Photoshop. The first thing I’ll talk about is layer masks. To work with layer masks may seem difficult at first. But I suggest you to use them when editing your architectural images. In this way you can edit your images without making any changes on your actual files. For instance I’ll add a wood material here. At first I’ll do it without using a layer mask. For this drag and open the texture you would like to use in Photoshop. Hit Cmd/Ctrl + T to change its size. To copy it, hit alt when selection tool is active and drag the layer. In this way as you can see, Photoshop creates a second layer here. You can right click and merge these layers later. But I usually don’t use this method to copy images. If you don’t want to create another layer you can hit Cmd/ Ctrl + A on your keyboard and select everything in this layer. And do the same thing as before. I mean active the selection tool and hit alt key on your keyboard. Then drag the image and hit Cmd/Ctrl + D to deselect. As you can see this time there isn’t a second layer here. You can copy your images in the same layer this way. Now lower the opacity to see the drawing behind. Activate the Lasso tool and select the parts of the image that you don’t want to see. For example, for this layer I need to erase the parts that are out of these lines here You can always add textures to your files in Photoshop like this. But when you do this, you change the first image you added to your file. I deleted some parts of this image for now. I can take it back by going back on my history tab here. But when you continue on working with Photoshop the steps you can take back are limited, so you can go back in history insofar. So this is a destructive way of working in Photoshop When you want to change the first image you may have no chance to do that and need to work on it all over again. You need to use layer masks in such cases. To add a mask on this layer, click this option on the bottom here. Nothing changes here when I do this but what this does is adding a new layer filled with white color that has a lock in between. When layer masks are white this means your layer is visible. If the layer mask is black, then this means your layer is invisible. By changing the color here hit Alt+Backspace to fully paint your layer mask with that color. If you want to see this layer partly, you can change the color to black here and paint your mask on the parts you don’t want to display. When you do this, some black and white forms appear on the layer mask as well. Hit Alt and click the layer mask to view the layer mask. And you can work on your layer masks like this. You can always activate the layer again by clicking on it. Now I’ll delete this layer mask here. I want to apply this wooden texture on this surface only. So hit W on your keyboard and activate the Magic Wand tool. Activate the layer below to select the parts you’d like to fill with the texture And add a layer mask to the layer with the texture here. This way I can add a layer mask to the layer I selected. So I can display this layer depending on the selection I just made. You can copy your layers and layer masks as well. Hit alt and move the layer to copy it. The first layer has a mask linked to it, so the layer I copied also has the same mask. Right click on the mask and delete it. Now I’ll do the same thing I just did for the left part of this image. So first of all drag this layer where I want it to be. You can move your images by using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Turn off this layer here. Active the pdf layer and select the areas to be displayed. Turn on the last layer and add a mask to it. This makes the layer visible only on the parts I select. You can redefine selection areas on the layer masks. This is the great thing about working with layer masks. You can always change them. You can make a selection and paint it black to make it invisible. This way you can change its visibility. When you paint it white, you make it visible again. You can paint your layer masks by using brushes. The second thing I’ll talk about is brushes Now I want to add an ivy texture here. Like I did before, drag the image into the file I’m working with. Change its size. To copy it in the same layer hit Cmd+A or Ctrl+A on a PC and hit option or alt on a PC while dragging it. Add a layer mask to this layer. This mask is all white so it’s all visible. I’ll paint it with black. Hit Alt+Backspace to fill the layer mask with the desired color. This makes the layer invisible since it’s all black. Change the colors here by hitting X on your keyboard. This is a much faster way to change the foreground and background colors here. Now I’ll make this invisible layer visible on some parts by using various brushes. Hit B to activate the brush tool or select it from the toolbar here. Hit here to change its shape, size or hardness. To add a new brush set to this menu, choose load brushes option here. This will lead you to your computer. Find a brush set in your computer to add it into your Photoshop file. You can download brushes from internet. You can delete brushes from this list by hitting Alt or Option on a Mac. But I don’t suggest you to delete any default brushes in Photoshop. Now select a brush from this list to activate it and close this menu. I’ll paint the layer mask with white color to make it partly visible. So I change the color here to white. This way you can paint the parts you’d like to view on the layer. You don’t need to change the sizes of the brushes from here all the time. This is such a waste of time. Instead, hit Control + Option on a Mac and drag your mouse to right and left to change its size easily. Drag your mouse up and down to change its opacity. On a PC, hit alt and right click to the mouse. Similarly, drag your mouse right and left to change its size and drag it up and down to change its opacity. By doing so, you can work with Photoshop much faster than before. When working with layer masks you can define selection areas like this. And you can always take it back whenever there is a mistake like this one here. You can fix your images, redefine selection areas and repaint them with brushes. I make this part invisible with black color. You can change the position of a brush from here. You can prevent your images and brush effects become monotonic by doing so. Use shortcuts to change its size and opacity and change its position to create better images. You can edit you images like this. Select different brushes from the list to make it diverse. In such cases, paint your layer mask with black to change its visibility. Hit shift to turn off the layer mask. This makes your actual layer become visible again without the layer mask. The actual layer I have here looks like this. I haven’t changed anything on this layer. I’ve just defined the areas to be visible on this layer with a layer mask. You can use layer masks like this. They’re very helpful. Go to Window and select Brush Presets to make some changes on your brushes. You can change its diameter, angle or roundness here. You can change its shape, add some jitter or scattering Change the count here. You can look through this menu to find the effect you’d like to get on a brush. You can also change its color dynamics here. Now I’ll talk about adjustment layers. You can change hue, saturation, brightness and contrast or so on of an image in Photoshop. You can apply these adjustments to the whole image or a selected part on an image. You can add them to your layers by going to image, adjustments menu here. But I wouldn’t recommend you to apply them from here. Because when you add them like this, you may not have a chance to take it back or change it afterwards. For example, I’m changing the brightness of a layer I select here. You can add different kind of adjustments as well. When I keep on working with this image, I may find this adjustment here irrelevant from the rest of the image. I may want to change its color again to blend it with the whole image. So I suggest you to apply these adjustments to your projects from here. I’m going to change the color of the wood here. So come here and add a hue/saturation layer to my image instead of using the image menu like before. Lower the saturation here and change the brightness. When I do this like this, it is applied to the whole image. But I want it to be applied to the layer here. So it will only effect this layer with a wooden texture in it. For this, i need to select this option here. When I do this, a small arrow appears next to the adjustment layer. It works like a clipping mask, links the adjustment to the layer below. As you can see, it only effects the layer below it Doesn’t effect the whole image. You can change it by hitting here and make it all active for your whole file. When you add adjustment layers, you can always come back to it and change or delete it. For instance after you’ve worked on a file for some time and realized that the color of the materials don’t match with the rest of the file. You can select the adjustment layer here and change its settings to match the colors or you can add another adjustment layer to the same layer as well. You can change its brightness and contrast. But again you need to hit this button here to make it active for the layer below. Otherwise it will effect your whole file. You can also apply them to groups. Make these layers group and move the adjustment layers out of the group. This way, the arrows disappear so they effect everything. I click them and hit this button again. Thus they are applied to this group below the adjustment layers. So if you want to make some adjustments on your files, it’s better for you to add them from here as an adjustment layer so that you’ll have much more control over your images and the way they seem. And don’t hesitate to create extra layers. You can always merge your layers or make them a group to organize your file. It’s always better to keep things organized in Photoshop. It may seem as a loss of time but after a while you’ll have a lot of layers here. And forget which layer had which image on it. So changing their names, grouping or merging the same type of elements will actually help you work faster. Right click on a group and you can select a color for that group and all the layers that group has inside. I’ll talk about the shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + G now. You can use this one for lots of things. As an example I’ll add another texture here So I’ll repeat the same steps i did at the beginning of this video. Add a new texture, change its size and copy it in the same layer by using the shortcuts Cmd/Ctrl + A. Make it a group and change its color. Now I make my selection with magic wand. You can make your selections by using Marquee Tool. Or hit M on your keyboards which is its shortcut. Finally add a layer mask to this last layer here without changing it but only effecting its visible parts. But when I do this, I lose the shadow this image actually has. For that reason, add a new layer here and hit Cmd+Option+G or Ctrl+Alt+G on a PC. This creates a small arrow next to this layer like the one we had on our adjustment layers. This means this layer acts like a clipping mask and only visible where the layer its linked to is visible. Hit B to activate brush tool and change its opacity to 100. This is an empty layer. But when I try to paint it with my brush, it only paints where I made a selection for the layer below it. It basically works like a layer mask. So I can only paint this area here. Cause its visibility is controlled by the layer below. Hit Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z to take this step back. Now to add a shadow here, select the area where the shadow will be visible. When I make this layer invisible the layer with a clipping mask also becomes invisible, because they’re linked. This layer is defined by the layer below. Paint this area here to black. And lower the opacity of that layer. Now I have the shadow back. You can use these shortcuts for such cases or more. Add a new layer hit the same buttons to create a clipping mask. Shadows go from dark to the light, so you need to have contrast on your shadow. I usually create 3 layers for shadows and change their layer modes or opacities. This is the last thing I’ll talk about. Hit B and activate brush tool. Pick a soft brush, change its opacity if desired. Paint this area and change the layer mode to soft light. Change its opacity or look through the other layer mode options here. Some modes are perfect for some cases, you just need to make some practice. I change this one to soft light. Add another layer, hit the same buttons Link this layer to the selection below again. It will be the darkest on the edges. So start painting and change its opacity. This will create some contrast. Or change the layer mode here and paint again. This line here shouldn’t be that sharp. You can use blur tool for this. Make it a little bit smoother for a better effect. We’ve learned some tips you may find helpful when editing your architectural files on Photoshop. Hope this was helpful. Thanks for watching.
