Animated Silhouette Effect: Photoshop Tutorial

Lets start. Head up to File>Open. I will use this image of a couple. Double click to open in Photoshop. Head over and select the Quick Selection Tool. Select the couple + the ground. Hold ALT + Click to subtract from selection. I will speed this part up. Once you’re done. Head up to Select and Mask. Decontaminate Colors Checked. Then select the Refine Edge Brush Tool. Only focus on the hair at this stage. Output to: New layer with layer mask. Then hit OK. Head up to File>New. Width: 1280 Pixels by Height: 720 Pixels. I’m going to rename this to Project. Then hit Create. Head back to the couple image. Then select the Move Tool. (V) Click and drag the couple image onto the new project we created. Right click on the couple image>Convert to Smart Object. Hit CTRL + T to select the image. CTRL + 0 to zoom out a bit. Hold ALT + SHIFT while resizing. Position the image near the center. When you’re done, hit Enter to accept changes. Head up to File>Open. Double click to open the star image in Photoshop. Right click on the star background>Convert into Smart Object. Head over and select the Move Tool. (V) Drag and drop onto our pain project. Make sure it’s below the couple layer. Hit CTRL + T to select the star background. Then CTRL + 0 to zoom back out. Hold ALT + SHIFT to resize the image. Hit Enter to accept changes. Select the top layer. Create a new adjustment layer>Hue/Saturation. Clip to layer below. Drop the Lightness down to about – 100. Then hit close. Have the couple layer selected. Head up to File>Open. I’m going to add some shrubs to the image. Double click to open in Photoshop. I will select the bottom one. Have your Move Tool selected. (V) Then drag and drop onto our main project. Bring it below the couple image. Hit CTRL + T to select the image. Hold ALT + SHIFT while resizing. Hit Enter when you’re done. CTRL + J to duplicate the shrubs. Using your Move Tool. Positon the second one. Hold CTRL down and select both shrub layers. Right click, Merge Layers. Create a new adjustment layer>Hue/Saturation. Clip to layer below. Drop the Lightness to – 100. Then hit close. Hold CTRL down and select the top four layers. Right Click>Convert to Smart Object. I will rename this layer to Couple. I will rename this second layer to Stars. Unlock the bottom layer. Then delete it. You should now have two layers. Head up to Window>Timeline. Then select Create Video Timeline. Head up to File>Open. I will add dust particles to the project. Double click to open. Click on the video group layer. Then select your Move Tool. (V) Drag and drop onto our main project. Drag it below the couple layer. Center the particle video. Change the Blending Mode>Screen. Drop the opacity to about 20%. I’m going to zoom out of timeline a little. Click and drag the end of the particle layer to the left. This will shorten the video to match the rest. Make sure the slider is at the start. Click on the little arrow on the couple layer. Click on the little stop watch to create a keyframe. Drag the slider to the end. CTRL + T to select the couple image. Hold ALT + SHIFT while increasing the size. Hit Enter to accept changes. A new keyframe should be set. Drag the slider to the beginning. Click on the little drop down arrow. (Stars) Click on the stop watch to add a keyframe. Drag the slider to the end. CTRL + T to select the star background. CTRL + 0 to zoom back out. Here you can rotate the image. I will rotate mine slightly. Hit Enter when you’re done. Another keyframe should be added. Drag the slider to the beginning again. Here’s what it will look like before rendering. Create a new adjustment layer>Color Balance. I will change some of the colors. + 45 | – 10 | + 45 Then hit close. Head up to File>Export>Render Video. Rename your project as you wish. Presets: High Quality. Size: 1280 by 720. Then hit Render. This shouldn’t take long, depending on your PC. That’s it! I hope you enjoyed.
