I first tried the Ubuntu internal recorder but this one created bad artifacts. That is why I use ffmpeg from the command terminal: ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 25 -s 1280×720 -i :0.0 ~/desktop.mpg

Thank you! Been searching for a solution for quite a time. 😀
Now i can use the Video from my Camera together with some action shots from a cheap cam. The 4:3 and the timestamp were annoying.

Don't hesitate to ask if there is an issue that I have not addresses in one of my videos yet.

Do you mean in openshot? My first educated guess would be that you copied the project folders to a different location. As this can be a bit tricky to work out it might be rather an issue for the official openshot help forum. I am around there anyway.

What's the name of the song? I've tried searching the French lyrics by my French spelling isn't that great…

It's "Secouez moi" by David Löhstana. You find this info in the ending credits 🙂

I must confess, I did not watch the credits. I figured out how to crop/resize the video and then became enthralled with finding the song. Woops. Many thanks.

Never mind. As long as it does not annoy you I am happy.

I hope it will work out better in future.

It is not clear, what you are doing in that video. Cropping means cutting off unwanted edges.

I am open for a better title suggestion. Anyway I show how to resize a video and how to crop off top and bottom part. In my eyes "crop" was the most appropriate word to describe the process.

how to make it work only for width? here it is getting shrinked on height and width 🙁 even if I only change width

  16. Justin Lloyd July 22, 2015 at 5:12 pm

This did exactly what I needed it to do, thanks!  I had a 16:9 video framed in 4:3 (black bars on the top and bottom) and this did a great job of chopping them off and restoring it back to an actual 16:9.

  17. J. Williams December 28, 2015 at 7:49 pm

Ok, I got the 134% height and width, and -17 x and y (hey folks, that's zooming the video by 134% so the width is correct for 16:9, then ya gotta trim the top and bottom). But the preview window still shows 4:3! It cuts off the sides. The exported video shows correctly, which is the important thing. But, I narrate my videos, sometimes while watching the preview in openshot. That leads to me missing things at the edges. Is there anyway to get the preview to show 16:9?

I know people create YouTube videos for free. But, if they are really supposed to help someone, why don't the creators slow down. It would be nice to see and comprehend what is being taught.
